you start your own blog and use advertising to get hits and once you get hits others will pay to advertise on your site. Getting hits is the hard part.

The WordPress plugin Members Only will block access by anyone except registered users, if that’s private enough. (There’s also an option to block your feeds along with your posts.)

Staten Island Blogging Training: Are there any better blogging sites that allows people to comment your blog?
Question by plakola: Are there any better blogging sites that allows people to comment your blog?
Best answer:
Answer by kee
Better blogging sites than what? Are you referring to better than the Yahoo! Profiles? I think almost any blogging service outside of Yahoo’s offerings would qualify, in that case. Also, the service that will work better for YOU depends on how you are going to construct and develop the blog, as well as other preferences.
I can tell you what services are popular. WordPress (i.e. the http://wordpress.org version) is at the top of the list for people who run a web site and want to incorporate blogging or who want to do “multi-user blogging”. WordPress can be a bit complicated to use, but it offers the largest and most progressive batch of features. Blogger/Blogspot (http://blogger.com ) is at the top of the list for people who would rather have a service control the primary web site functions and provide automated tools/features (i.e. developer-hosted blogging). Blogger is well known for its ease of use. Livejournal (http://livejournal.com ) is easy to use, but lacks the depth of customization available in the other services. WordPress can also be used as a developer host (i.e. the http://wordpress.com version – which also has multi-user features).
All of the above (except wordpress.org) are free developer-hosted services. Similar services are Vox (http://vox.com ), Typepad (http://typepad.com – can also work as a stand-alone blog platform), Travelpod (http://www.travelpod.com/ ), and Tumblr (http://www.tumblr.com/ ).
You may want to check out http://blog-services-review.toptenreviews.com/ , which provides a listing of some top blogging services and features (excluding Y!360 from that list).
If you are looking for a social-networking service that has a blog feature (like the Yahoo! Profiles service), then check out any of the following: MySpace (http://myspace.com ), Facebook (http://facebook.com ), Multiply (http://multiply.com ), Xanga (http://xanga.com ), Windows Live Spaces (http://spaces.live.com/ ), Ning (http://ning.com ), Yahoo! Profiles (http://profiles.yahoo.com – already registered just go to the site). Bebo (http://www.bebo.com/ ) and Gaia (http://www.gaiaonline.com/ ) are sites geared toward teenagers. See http://social-networking-websites-review.toptenreviews.com/ for a feature comparison list.
With the above said, you do have the option of creating a self-hosted/stand-alone blog where more of the site will be controlled by you. You would likely need money – $ 10 to $ 160 – to pay for a web host and/or domain name (prices vary regarding time range and offered features). You may need to purchase blogging software as well. There are some services that are all-inclusive – web hosting, domain name, blogging software in one package. See http://www.problogger.net/archives/2006/02/15/choosing-a-blog-platform/ for more details regarding your choices. Again, WordPress.org and Typepad would be applicable as a blog platforms in that case. Also, this may be your best option if you want to help ensure that the blog stays active for a long time (provided that you can continually fund its existence) and that you can utilize or incorporate the most features.

Staten Island Blogging Training: An active weight loss blogging community?
Question by Ell: An active weight loss blogging community?
I’m looking for a website where people blog about their weight loss, keep each other motivated, ect. Any suggestions?
Best answer:
Answer by Joyous G
Did you know that additional weight is not constantly thanks to additional body fat? There can be a great deal of unwanted weight basically lying around in your colon. The latest diet supplement can cleanse your colon and help you to reduce up to 20 lbs, frequently from your midriff (show me a person who doesn’t need to reduce some inches from their midriff LOL!!). There’s a risk free trial on offer at http://spoispenta.fin-tech.com I’ve been using it for three weeks now and it’s certainly working!!

Staten Island Blogging Training: What (free) blogging site or web site builder would you recommend for my particular situation?
Question by flurrie: What (free) blogging site or web site builder would you recommend for my particular situation?
I know lots of people have already asked this question, but I’d like to hear if the answers are any different for my particular situation.
I would like to develop an online outlet to post articles I have written about a variety of topics (science, medicine, astronomy, alternative news, politics, philosophy and so on). I’ve been on LiveJournal, MySpace, FaceBook, Yahoo 360, Xanga, and some others, but I don’t want this to be a personal blog; I want it to be a bit more professional, and a bit less socially oriented.
I’d also like annoying ads to be at a minimum, and for visitors to be able to comment without having to register.
I know a lot of similar questions are answered with “Blogger.” If this is your suggestion, what makes Blogger better than other sites?
Thoughtful suggestions appreciated!

Blogger can do everything you’ve mentioned. It’s adless and you can configure it in such a way to:
1. Allow anonymous comments (nobody has to register)
2. Only people you choose can view your blog
3. Blogger.com asks you if you want to add your Blog to their listings too. A Public blog appears in your Blogger Profile. If you select “No” they will not show your blog anywhere on Blogger.com, but it will still be available on the Internet.
I would recomment Blogger.com, but if that doesn’t suit you, maybe you want to host your own domain and use Blogger’s software to add content to your own site.
There is one more option that requires more out of you. Try googlepages.com. It’s the coolest thing I’ve seen on the Net all year.
